How to Translate

Getting Started

  • Log in with your account
  • Select a project from the home page
  • Click on a source key to view and add translations

The Interface

  • Left panel: Project info and stats
  • Middle panel: Source keys list
  • Right panel: Translation editor

Adding Translations

  1. Click a source key in the middle panel
  2. Type your translation in the text area
  3. Click "Add Translation" to submit

Tip: Use the copy icon to copy existing translations to the editor.

Machine translation suggestions from MyMemory and DeepL are available below the editor — click to expand and copy into the editor. This feature is experimental and quality may vary, especially for complex FM26 phrases. The API quota is shared across all users so suggestions may occasionally be unavailable.

Similar Keys

When you open a source key, the editor may show a 💡 N similar key(s) found button below the translation area. Click it to expand a list of other keys whose source phrase closely matches this one.

  • Each match shows the already-approved translation for that key
  • Click a match to instantly copy that translation into the editor — useful when the phrasing is identical or nearly identical
  • Click the blue key number (e.g. KEY-232323) to jump directly to that key if you need more context

Similar keys help you stay consistent: if a phrase has already been translated elsewhere in the project, you can reuse or adapt that wording rather than starting from scratch.

Reference Translations

See how a phrase is translated in other languages for context:

  1. Select a source key to view its translations
  2. Click the globe icon next to the key number
  3. A popup shows translations from other languages (German, French, etc.)

This helps maintain consistency and understand context across languages.

Placeholders

Keep these placeholders in your translations:

[%male#1] [%female#1] [%person#1] - Person names
[%team#1-long] - Team name
[%award#1-long] - Award name
[COMMENT: ...] - Can be removed

Variants

Some phrases have gender variants:

M - Male
F - Female
MM - Two males
FF - Two females
MF/FM - Mixed

Use the variant dropdown below the search bar to filter keys by variant.

Filters

  • Untranslated: No translations yet
  • Pending: Awaiting approval
  • Approved: Ready for export
  • Mismatched: Source text differs

Uploading LTF Files

Project owners can bulk upload translations from .ltf files. Matching translations are auto-approved; mismatches need manual review.

Only one upload can run at a time — the upload button is disabled with a spinner while processing is in progress.

Downloading LTF Files

Click the download icon in the left panel to open the download dialog. Three options may be available:

Quick Download

Pre-generated file updated daily — ready to use immediately. Shown when the project owner has generated a release file.

Generate & Download

Builds a fresh LTF from all currently approved translations. Optionally prepend key numbers to each string (e.g. "232323.Translated text") to help identify entries when reviewing the file externally.

My Translations

Visible only when you have pending (unapproved) contributions. Generates an LTF that uses approved translations as a base but substitutes your own latest submission for every key you have translated — even if those translations are still awaiting review. Useful when a project owner is inactive but you want to play with your own work in-game right away.

Review Queue

Project owners and trusted contributors can review all pending translations in one focused flow — no need to click through the key list one by one.

  1. Click the clipboard ✓ icon in the project toolbar (visible to owners and trusted contributors). A ! badge appears when there are items waiting
  2. Each pending translation is shown as a card: source phrase on top, submitted translation below
  3. Press A or click Approve to approve and advance
  4. Click Reject to dismiss the submission — all of that user's attempts for the same key are marked as reviewed so they won't resurface
  5. Press S or click Skip to defer and move to the next
  6. Skipped items cycle back at the end of the session
  7. If multiple users submitted translations for the same key, each appears as a separate candidate — only the latest submission per user is shown

A banner appears automatically if new translations arrive while you are reviewing. An "All caught up!" screen shows your session summary (approved, rejected, skipped) when the queue is empty.

The pending approval email links directly to the review queue so you can start approving with one click.

Trusted Contributors

Project owners and site admins can grant auto-approve trust to reliable contributors:

  • Only contributors with at least 1 approved translation are eligible
  • Click the star icon next to a contributor's name in the left panel to trust them
  • Trusted contributors' translations are approved instantly — no manual review needed
  • Click the star again to revoke trust at any time

Email Notifications

The platform sends several email notifications to keep owners and contributors informed:

New Translation Approvals

owner

Sent when new translations have been approved since the owner's last visit. Lists up to 10 approved entries with the original phrase and its translation.

Can be enabled or disabled per project in project settings.

Pending Translations Reminder

owner

Sent to project owners when contributor translations are waiting for approval. Includes a count of pending strings and a direct link to review them.

Weekly Digest

owner & contributors every Monday

Sent to project owners and all contributors. Includes overall translation progress, this week's activity (approvals, submissions, active contributors), pending string count, and top contributors for the week and all time.

Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any digest email to opt out at any time.

Project Inactivity Warning

owner

Sent when a project has had no new translations for several days and is at risk of being removed due to low progress. Serves as a heads-up to resume activity or inform contributors.

Project Maintenance

Inactive projects may be removed

Projects with less than 5% translation progress that have no new translations added within 7 days may be automatically deleted to keep the platform clean. You will receive an email notification before any action is taken.
